Born in 1990 in Maaroub, south Lebanon, Ali Fneish was captured on June 4, 2025, months into the ceasefire, while fishing off Naqoura Beach, in full view of Lebanese security forces, who failed to intervene to prevent his capture, despite the blatantly unlawful invasion of Lebanese waters. He is married with three daughters and two sons; his oldest child is 14 and his youngest, 4. He works in the fishing industry, owns a shop selling fishing equipment and regularly goes to sea to fish and support his family.
